Goaltending can make or break a fantasy hockey season. Unlike skaters, goalie value is heavily influenced by workload, team strength, save percentage, goals-against average and the number of wins a goalie can accumulate.

The rankings consider projected workload, team strength, expected wins, recent performance, save percentage, goals-against average, shutout potential and overall fantasy upside.
For the projections below, the Projection Tier represents the expected win range for the 2026/27 regular season.
Tier 1 — Elite Fantasy Goalies
1. Andrei Vasilevskiy — TBL
Position: G | Projection: 35+ Wins
Vasilevskiy remains one of the safest elite options in fantasy hockey. Tampa Bay should provide plenty of opportunities for wins, while his combination of workload and proven track record gives him one of the highest ceilings at the position.
2. Connor Hellebuyck — WPG

Hellebuyck is coming off a difficult season by his standards, but his previous track record is impossible to ignore. A bounce-back season could put him right back among the fantasy elite.
3. Logan Thompson — WSH

Thompson enters the season with an excellent combination of talent, workload potential and team support. Washington’s projected team strength gives him significant fantasy upside.
4. Jake Oettinger — DAL
Position: G | Projection: 35+ Wins
Oettinger remains one of the premier volume options in fantasy hockey. Dallas should give him plenty of opportunities to accumulate wins, making him one of the most attractive high-volume starters.
5. Ilya Sorokin — NYI
Position: G | Projection: 30-34 Wins
Sorokin’s individual ability gives him an excellent fantasy floor. If the Islanders provide improved support in front of him, his win totals could make him one of the most valuable goalies in fantasy.
6. Igor Shesterkin — NYR
Position: G | Projection: 30-34 Wins
Shesterkin remains an elite talent capable of carrying fantasy teams in the rate categories. His biggest question is how many wins he can accumulate behind New York’s roster.
7. Jeremy Swayman — BOS
Position: G | Projection: 30-34 Wins
Swayman’s combination of talent and workload gives him significant upside. Boston’s goaltending situation should provide plenty of opportunity for him to remain a high-end fantasy starter.
Tier 2 — High-End No. 1 Goalies
8. Karel Vejmelka — UTA
Position: G | Projection: 30-34 Wins
Vejmelka has a chance to benefit significantly from Utah’s improving roster. Increased team support could translate into a major jump in fantasy value.
9. Jesper Wallstedt — MIN
Position: G | Projection: 30-34 Wins
Wallstedt is one of the most exciting young goalies in fantasy hockey. If he receives the expected workload, his combination of talent and team situation gives him considerable breakout potential.
10. Brandon Bussi — CAR
Position: G | Projection: 30-34 Wins
Bussi’s projected role in Carolina puts him in an extremely favorable team environment. The Hurricanes’ ability to control play should create plenty of opportunities for wins.
11. Linus Ullmark — OTT
Position: G | Projection: 30-34 Wins
Ullmark brings a strong track record and the potential for a substantial workload. Ottawa’s overall improvement could also provide more opportunities for fantasy-friendly win totals.
12. Jakub Dobes — MTL
Position: G | Projection: 30-34 Wins
Dobes is one of the biggest young-goalie breakout candidates on the board. Montreal’s projected team strength gives him the potential to outperform his draft position.
13. Jacob Markstrom — FLA
Position: G | Projection: 25-29 Wins
Markstrom moves into an excellent team environment in Florida. Even if his workload is managed, the quality of the team around him should provide strong fantasy value.
14. Scott Wedgewood — COL
Position: G | Projection: 25-29 Wins
Colorado’s offensive firepower and overall team strength make Wedgewood an intriguing fantasy option. His win potential could be particularly valuable in leagues that reward volume.
15. Sergei Bobrovsky — TOR
Position: G | Projection: 25-29 Wins
Bobrovsky’s experience and track record make him an interesting option in his new environment. Toronto should provide opportunities for wins, while his fantasy value will depend heavily on workload and consistency.

16. Mackenzie Blackwood — COL

Knight has a chance to re-establish himself as a reliable NHL starter. Chicago’s developing roster creates some risk, but his individual upside makes him worth monitoring.
27. Joel Hofer — STL

Hofer continues to offer intriguing upside as he takes on a larger role. His fantasy value could rise quickly if his workload increases.
28. Dan Vladar — PHI
Position: G | Projection: 20-24 Wins
Vladar enters the season with the potential to provide solid volume. Philadelphia’s overall situation creates some uncertainty, but he remains a useful fantasy target.
Tier 5 — Late-Round & Deep-League Targets
29. Dustin Wolf — CGY

Silovs is an intriguing late-round option because of his potential to grow into a larger role. He offers more upside than his current fantasy draft cost may suggest.
32. Alex Lyon — BUF
Position: G | Projection: 15-19 Wins
Lyon is a useful depth option who could become much more valuable if Buffalo’s goaltending situation changes. He’s particularly interesting in deeper leagues where playing time is difficult to find.
Final Thoughts
The goalie position has more uncertainty than almost any other position in fantasy hockey. Workload, team strength and goalie tandems can change the fantasy landscape quickly.
The safest strategy is to identify goalies who combine talent with opportunity. A great goalie who only starts 35 games may not provide the same fantasy value as a slightly less talented goalie who receives 55-plus starts.
There are also several young goalies who could dramatically change the rankings during the season. Wallstedt, Dobes, Dostal, Askarov, Wolf and Hofer are among the names worth watching closely as the 2026/27 season develops.
